“We tried our best to make the game go ahead, but too much snow fell on Thursday evening, giving us little chance to prepare the ground for Sunday,” said VfB sporting director Philipp Herrnberger. The condition of the pitch was just one of the concerns, however. Those responsible reserved extra fears over the spectators’ area. “Some parts of the stadium are under water. The weather report has also predicted frost for the game, which would have been a big risk for those coming to watch,” explained Herrnberger.
“We are sorry that the team can’t be there for the fans on Sunday. Together with VfB, we will try to rearrange a new date in the future,” said sporting director Frank Baumann.
The tickets that have already been sold for the game will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. More information will follow in the coming days on VfB Oldenburg’s homepage.
