It wasn’t only the players who were rewarded for their achievements at the Werder general assembly on Monday evening, but also the 362 Werder members eligible to vote were able to help shape the future of the club. The elections of the supervisory and the honorary Werder board members were two essential items on the agenda at the 2016 general assembly.

Former supervisory board members Willi Lemke, Hans Schulz and Dr. Werner Brinker were not re-elected by the election committee, leaving three vacant positions on the supervisory board. Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald formally gave thanks to the parting board members. Marco Bode also thanked them for their “trustful, attentive and goal-driven teamwork.”

Kurt Zech (Werder building contractor and executive partner of the ZECH group), Andreas Hoetzel (company communications leader at BLG Logistics Groups AG & Co. KG) and Thomas Krohne (President of the German football association) will shortly take over their positions. Marco Bode, chairman of the Werder supervisory board, was also re-elected by the members eligible to vote at the general assembly. Marco Fuchs (Chairman of OHB System AG) and Alex Plaat (SV Werder treasurer) also join the supervisory board committee.

Moreover, Philipp Mehrtens, president of the Bremen Athletics Association, was chosen to be the first candidate, as well as Gunnar Lübben-Rathjen, a non-executive director at SV Werder from as early as 1999 to 2012 and former member of the board for the handball department, who was selected as the second candidate. The newly-elected board of directors will be formerly appointed at a company general meeting by the club, which is being scheduled for the end of the year.

Members headed to the ballot box to elect the new officials to honorary Green-Whites board. Current honorary board members Wolfgang Schäfer and Horst Kühne did not stand for election and stepped down. The following nine people were thus elected as honorary board members after two secret ballots: Peter Eilers (Chairman of the council), Elke Humrich, Radek Lewicki, Klaus-Jürgen Witt, Egbert Wilzer and Joachim Bunzel as well as new members Heike Hoffmeister-Eilts, Gunnar Lübben-Rathjen and Dagmar Stelberg.
