+++ The same mindset: “What more can I do to improve my performance?” Werder’s new assistant manager Markus Feldhoff is constantly asking this question. He tried to answer this when he was a young player with his then teammate Alexander Nouri. “We had a similar way of thinking in many ways. That was at the crux of why we were able to work together for so many years,” says Feldhoff today. The duo was charged with helping SV Werder to find that optimum level of performance in the Bundesliga on Wednesday. In an interview with WERDER.TV, Markus Feldhoff talks about why he is particularly looking forward to being on the sidelines for his first home game and what he is doing to try to get the players to put in that extra ten percent. +++

+++ Duel between Schmidt, Nouri and Feldhoff: Feldhoff and Nouri have not just known each other for many years, they also have a connection with Bayer head coach Roger Schmidt. All three were playing in the Regionalliga in 2003, which at the time was the joint-third highest league in Germany They even played against each other, Nouri and Feldhoff with KFC Uerdingen and Schmidt with SC Paderborn. The match finished 2-2 with Feldhoff scoring the first for his side to make it 1-1. Nouri (with Uerdingen and Werder II) and Schmidt (with Padeborn and and SC Verl) came up against each other five times, in the 2000/01, 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons. Nouri however only won one of the five encounters against his current fellow coach, even while playing for Werder’s second team. He will get his chance for revenge this Saturday on the sidelines.

+++ Right hand, glove on. Left hand, in a cast: You just cannot keep Jaroslav Drobny away. Despite two breaks in his left wrist, the 36-year-old keeper is already back in training. The Czech is making plenty of saves at the moment with one arm just as easily. In addition, Drobny is training twice a day in the weights room and appears to be intensifying his rehabilitation programme.

+++ Positives in disappointment: Drobny’s goalkeeping c0olleague Felix Wiedwald really has had a difficult few weeks. The club’s undisputed number one from last season has been on the bench since the Gladbach match. “Despite being personally disappointed, Felix has always remained positive and has given his all to support the team,” said Alexander Nouri, praising the 26-year-old’s attitude. Wiedwald has clearly shown how much he identifies with the club and the team, according to Nouri. At the press conference ahead of the match against Leverkusen, the head coach also spoke of his “open and honest conversations” with Wiedwald, who will be in goal for SV Werder once again on Saturday. +++
