+++Anticipation is the most wonderful form of joy. Tomorrow, exactly a month after the Green and Whites played their last game before the Christmas break against TSG Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen will get their 2017 footballing year underway against Borussia Dortmund. And it’s high time we got going again. “We are all looking forward to the game and are excited to finally get back out there again,” explained Fin Bartels in Thursday’s press conference. “It’s what all the players have worked for over the entire winter break, the chance to play in front of 40,000 spectators again,” explained the 29-year-old, describing the eagerness of his teammates to play in front of a sold out home stadium against Dortmund. There’s nothing more for us to add, it’s time to start playing!+++

+++ No fear of the big names: After facing Borussia Dortmund away, FC Bayern Munich will be next to travel to the Weser-Stadion seven days later. Are Werder scared? Dream on! “As we get the chance to have our first two games at home, everyone has to see that we really want to prove ourselves against the best players,” demanded Frank Baumann, Werder’s chief executive ahead of these two exciting clashes to start the new year. Head coach Alexander Nouri is staying calm ahead of his first games as a coach against the two biggest names in German football. “First and foremost we are looking forward to playing two such big teams but nothing changes in the way we approach these matches and our work with the team.” +++

+++ Diego to play for Brazil: Former Werder player Diego features in Brazil’s squad for the charity match against Colombia. The match is being played for all those affected by the plane crash in Colombia.+++

+++ Remembering our former captain: Arnold „Pico“ Schütz had made 826 appearances for the Green-Whites by the end of his career. His statement “I am and always will be a Green-White” is still symbolic of him even two years after his death. Schütz, Werder team captain when the Green-Whites won the league in 1965, would have turned 82 years old on Thursday 19th January 2017.  Thank you for everything, Pico. We will never forget you!+++
