+++ Precious time for recovery: There’s hardly any time to breathe when fighting relegation. After two consecutive wins, the team has been able to refresh themselves for two days on Sunday and Monday in anticipation of the coming weekend’s crucial match against Darmstadt. “To have two days off in a row is a rare occasion. It helps. Everybody uses the days differently. Some spend time with their families, others visit friends, and some even take a short holiday,” said Fin Bartels. The players will train twice as hard on Tuesday in preparation for Darmstadt, but both teams will be under the spotlight. The next opportunity to see Gnabry, Kruse and Co. at work will be on Wednesday afternoon, when Alexander Nouri’s squad will have an open training session from 15:00 CET. +++

+++ Three months ago: Florian Grillitsch’s last game in a Werder shirt came on matchday 11 against Eintracht Frankfurt, in which the Austrian scored to give Bremen the lead. Following that, Grillitsch missed time with SVW owing to thigh-muscle problems and a dislocated shoulder, with the latter resulting in him seeing a medical consultant in Spain over a period of multiple months. Eleven matchdays since his last Bundesliga game, the 21-year-old returned to the team for a road victory against Wolfsburg. Grillitsch came on to replace Maximilian Eggestein a quarter of an hour before the final whistle, helping Alexander Nouri’s team maintain their narrow lead. +++

+++ Man of the Match: With his first brace in a Green and White shirt, Serge Gnabry secured a second consecutive away victory for the team in Wolfsburg. That brace also meant Gnabry secured the Volkswagen Man of the Match Award on Werder Bremen’s official Facebook page, where the 21-year-old won with 49 percent of all votes, ahead of Felix Wiedwald (35 percent) and Robert Bauer (6 percent). You can also vote Gnabry for Player of Matchday 22 until 20:00 CET on Monday on bundesliga.com. For now, the Werder forward is third behind Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. That should be motivation enough to go and cast your vote for Serge! +++
