+++ On Saturday morning, Niklas Schmidt found out that he would be in Werder’s squad for their game against Wolfsburg, twelve hours later, he was an influential figure in the Green-White’s 2-1 victory – what a day! For the 18 year old, it was his most important moment at the club, since he moved to the Weser four years ago. “When my number has held up for me to be subbed on, it was indescribable,” said Schmidt after the final whistle. The 18 year old had only been on the pitch for 15 minutes when he whipped in the corner for Theodor Gebre Selassie to head home. “In the changing room, I got some time to myself and was able to think about it, but I still just can’t comprehend it all,” revealed Schmidt to WERDER.TV. First game, first assist and first win – he couldn’t have asked for more on his Green-White debut. +++

+++ Recovering after the three game week. An intense week is now behind Fritz, Gnabry and Co. and with three tiring games in the legs, recovering is certainly important to start the week. “After an intense week, we need two days rest and after the Wolfsburg game, the boys have definitely earned it,” explained Alexander Nouri. However, Santiago García and Fin Bartels were on the training ground working towards their comebacks on Monday, while the suspended Aron Jóhannsson also followed his own individual training programme. On Tuesday, the rest of the squad will return to training for a double session in preparation ahead of Saturday’s tie against SV Darmstadt 98 (1st of October, 15.30 CEST). +++

+++ Guwara to miss reunion. Two Werder players moved to Darmstadt on loan deals before the start of the season – Hungary national team player László Kleinheisler and 20 year old Leon Guwara. The latter however, will not get the chance to be reunited with his old teammates on Saturday as he was sent off in Darmstadt’s 1-0 loss to FC Augsburg on the last matchday. +++

+++ Three reasons to celebrate. Milos Veljkovic and Zlatko Junuzovic were each given an early birthday present as Werder won their first game of the season at the weekend. They were both in Werder’s starting eleven on Saturday and both celebrate their birthdays this Monday, with Veljkovic turning 21 and Junuzovic 29. Coincidently, the pair share their birthdays with Werder legend “Kalli” Kamp, who turns 70. He has been part of the club for 46 years and in his playing career, made 361 appearances for SVW. WERDER.DE would like to wish the trio all the best! +++
