++ A historic goal: Countries like Cambodia, Jamaica and Malta aren’t renowned for football, but players from these three countries have all scored in the top flight of German football. On Saturday, Gambia was added to this list of 91 nations thanks to Ousman Manneh’s winner against Bayer Leverkusen. The tireless Manneh contributed to the game in more ways than just his goal; he contested the most challenges throughout the 90 minutes, sprinted the most times (36) and took more than half of Werder’s shots (six). The 19 year old’s performance was so impressive that he has also been nominated for bundesliga.de’s “Player of the Week” award. +++

++ Gnabry’s “Goal of the Month”: Serge Gnabry was already nominated for the “Goal of the Week” award this season thanks to his thunderous volley against Gladbach. Now though, the Germany U21s’ man’s strike in Mönchengladbach has also won the “Goal of the Month” award, voted for by German fans on the “Sportschau” website. Gnabry’s goal, which came out on top with 31 percent of the votes, marked the 22nd time that a Green-White has won this award. Many congratulations, Serge! +++

++ Straight off the training ground: Izet Hajrovic and Zlatko Junuzovic were the architects of a unique free kick routine which led to Werder’s second goal on Saturday. After the game, Alexander Nouri revealed however, that the routine was inspired by the players themselves. The Green-White coaching team were aware of the set play and the head coach is expecting even more ideas from his team. “We look for the players to come up with their own things. With things like set pieces, we try to actively involve the players and not just tell them what to do. We kick started this process and now I’m eager to see more things come from the lads,” said Nouri. +++

++ Relaxing start to the week: Recovery was on the schedule on Sunday after the Leverkusen tie. While the starting eleven from the game trained in the gym to recover, the rest of the squad were on the training ground like normal. Izet Hajrovic, Clemens Fritz and Serge Gnabry, who were carrying knocks from the weekend’s game, trained and were treated indoors. Fallou Diagne also trained individually in the same place as the aforementioned trio, while Sambou Yatabaré stayed at home as he’s suffering from a cold. The players have time for more recovery on Monday, before preparations for the upcoming away game against RB Leipzig get underway on Tuesday. +++

++Great team spirit: You wouldn’t think striker Aron Jóhannsson would be the happiest person to see a rival for a starting spot get on the scoresheet. This, however, certainly wasn’t the case. Having returned from suspension following his red card, the USA striker had to settle for a place on the bench, despite putting in a solid performance in the friendly against FC St. Pauli. Jóhannsson didn’t manage to get on to the pitch in the end, but was nevertheless delighted for the team’s win, as he showed on social media after the game. The striker posted a picture on Twitter of himself and goalscorer Ousman Manneh on the team bus after the game - now that’s team spirit! +++

++ Incentive for Özil: Ex-Werder star Mesut Özil celebrated his 28th birthday on Saturday and the birthday wishes from Serge Gnabry, Özils former teammate and good friend at Arsenal, seemed to have had a good effect on the playmaker, as he celebrated a 3-2 win with the Gunners, over Swansea City. WERDER.DE would like to wish Mesut a belated happy birthday and all the best for the future! +++

++ Green-White individuals recognised: It was a collective effort on the part of Werder to pick up the three points against Bayer 04, with a high quality display and lots of determination. However, the outstanding individual performances of some players were also recognised. Zlatko Junuzovic, who was involved in both of Werder’s goals, was in the “Team of the Week” for both kicker-magazine and transfermarkt.de. Lamine Sané and Ousman Manneh were also in the transfermarkt.de starting eleven for matchday 7, while Manneh joined winger Izet Hajrovic in the Sportschau “Team of the Week”. +++
