+++ Opener: It’s crunch time for Serbia and Werder centre-back Milos Veljkovic, as he prepares with his national side for the U21 European Championship in Poland. The 21-year-old starts with Serbia, who were U19 European Champions and U20 World Champions, against Portugal in the European Championship game, which is due to kick off at 18:00 CEST in the Bydogszcz Stadium. The Green-White defender knows that their opponents will be anything but a walk-over: “Portugal really are a top team. If we win our first game, then I think that we have a good chance of progressing in the tournament,” said Veljkovic. +++

+++ Ranked: Sports magazine ‘Kicker’ published their bi-annual evaluation and ranking of Bundesliga players. Five Werder players emerged on the list for their performances throughout the second-half of the season. Defensive-midfielder Thomas Delaney featured in third-place in his category, whilst Maximilian Eggestein, who is also a defensive-midfielder, was ranked on the list. Newly-appointed Werder captain Zlatko Junuzovic made an appearance as an attacking-midfielder. Max Kruse and Fin Bartels were both on the list, as all Werder fans would expect, with the former only being bested by Robert Lewandowksi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Werder top-scorer was in the ‘world class’ category. +++

+++ Holiday update: Just 16 days to go until the official start of training again for the SV Werder players. The professionals will continue to use the two-and-a-bit weeks they have left to recover ahead of another season and enjoy themselves. Whilst Thomas Delaney and his girlfriend relax in Sicily, Robert Bauer and Lamine Sane are having fun in Ibiza. Sane is enjoying the time off with his brother Salif, who is under contract with Hannover 96, and 1. FC Köln’s Leonardo Bittencourt. +++
