++ Personnel update: For Serge Gnabry and Florian Kainz, their individual training programmes are over, as both returned to team training on Sunday. Gnabry had to sit out with some slight knee problems, Kainz was missing with the flu. However, while these two have returned, Florian Grillitsch won’t be training with the rest of his teammates after twisting his shoulder. He will therefore also skip the two friendlies on Monday against Karlsruhe and Brugge. “Grillo needs a rest, but he’ll return to training in the next few days,” said head coach Alexander Nouri. The same also applies to Philipp Bargfrede, Werder’s number 44 is back in Bremen training individually and should return to team training during the coming week. +++

++ Free time: Alexander Nouri announced before the training camp that team building would be a part of the programme in Spain. However, instead of any arranged activities, Nouri let his players have a Saturday night off to do what they wished. Many players took advantage of this free time and went into Marbella or the surrounding towns. However, there was of course one rule - the lads had to be back by 23:00. +++

++ Praise for the youngsters: Jesper Verlaat, Luca Zander and Niklas Schmidt are just three of a number of young players who have travelled to the Alhaurin Golf Resort with the first team for the winter training camp. This trio, as well as the rest of the Werder prospects, have all impressed coach Nouri. “They’ve performed well with the U23s, we hoped they would make a good impression and they have. They’re doing well in the training session and are applying themselves – that pleases me.” +++

++ Gnabry nominated: In the first half of this Bundesliga season, Serge Gnabry has flourished in his new colours and has become one of the standout performers in his position. These performances haven’t gone unnoticed; he has been nominated alongside Genki Haraguchi (Hertha BSC), Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig) and Ousmane Dembele (Borussia Dortmund) for the best left-midfielder of the first half of the campaign on Bundesliga.com! +++

++ Delaney’s German: SVW’s new signing Thomas Delaney surprised everyone at his official presentation with his German. At the training camp in Marbella, the Dane isn’t just working on getting used to his new team’s system, but also on the language barrier with his teammates. “I can already talk to my teammates a little,” said Delaney, who studied German at school. The reason for his decent level of German are the 30 hours of language lessons which he has already taken with his girlfriend Michelle. Both were able to prepare since his move was determined long before the January transfer window. +++
