+++ Bargfrede is back! He’s the latest name to be added to the list of returnees, as at the start of the week, Claudio Pizarro and Max Kruse also returned to team training after long-term injury lay-offs. The midfielder took part in team training on Monday morning, joining a small group of players on the training pitch. The reduced numbers were down to the starting eleven undergoing recovery training indoors, while the international players have already traveled to their national team camps - this meant Bargfrede was one of only nine outfield players on the training ground. The defensive midfielders left their teammates midway through the session to work on fitness. It’s likely “Bargi” will get his first game time in Friday’s friendly against VfL Osnabrück.+++

+++ Match practice for Pizarro: Claudio Pizarro could get more match practice against Osnabrück on Friday in order to get back into the swing of things. The 38-year old made his comeback 20 minutes before the end of the match against Schalke on Sunday. Now he needs to play as often as he can to get back in form. “I got through the game on Sunday very well and I was really pleased to get back on the pitch again, but I’ve still got a long way to go, I need to get my fitness back up,” said Pizarro. The Green-White fans can look forward to seeing a strong Werder side face VfL Osnabrück in the friendly on Friday evening at 18:30 CET.

+++ Petsos on the ball: Thanos Petsos would have pictured his starting debut for Werder differently to how it turned out. Petsos, alongside Fin Bartels and Milos Veljkovic, was one of three new players brought into the starting eleven to face Schalke on Sunday. “Thanos has been training well recently and he deserved to get his chance. We wanted a player with different characteristics to play in the holding midfield role,” said Nouri. And Petsos was effective in this role, he had the most touches (96) out of all the players on the pitch. Also, he made 66 successful passes. “He is very skillful, passes well and always wants to have the ball,” said Nouri. However, unfortunately the midfielder, who has made four appearances for the Greek national first team, couldn’t do anything to turn the scoreline around.
