+++ Putting in the final touches: Twenty Werder players made the journey to Mainz from their recent short training camp on Thursday. Philipp Bargfrede and Florian Grillitsch, who only rejoined first-team training again this week, completed some individual work at the Weser-Stadion on Friday morning with Ulisses Garcia. The rest of the team had a training session in Mainz at 15:00 CET, where all 18 players who were in the squad for the Gladbach match as well as Ousman Manneh and Jaroslav Drobny are finishing their preparations ahead of this Bundesliga clash on Saturday. +++

+++ Back in the U23s: Justin Eilers and Luca Caldirola were also on the plane to the Rheinhessen. The Green-Whites have been without both players for several months after they picked up injuries before the winter break and each featured only briefly in the team’s friendly matches.  Eilers, who did find himself in the starting XI for the U23s against Fortuna Köln two weeks ago, will be joined by fellow teammate Caldirola. Both look set to be given some game time in the third division match against SC Paderborn on Saturday, 18th February at 14:00 CET. +++

+++ Schröder excited for reunion: Rouven Schröder was at SV Werder for just twenty months but the current 1. FSV Mainz 05 sporting director still has a strong connection to the Weser. “Werder is a wonderful club. We know that they have a very good team and I’ll be rooting for them once this game is over since I worked very closely with many people there and got on well with them,” said the excited 41-year-old at Mainz’s press conference. +++
