+++ Werder fans already knew Robert Bauer was a fighter before his injury at the weekend. The wing-back had to be substituted after a tussle with Aleksandar Ignjovski on Saturday, in which he sustained an injury. Bauer was desperate to carry on despite the knock, however. “I’d signalled that I needed to come off so Santi got himself ready to come on, but then I realised that I could perhaps carry on so I said that Santi should hang on a bit. Then, during a sprint, I realised that there was no point in carrying,” explained Bauer. Bauer still wanted to celebrate the 5-2 win with the fans as he hobbled over to them on crutches. “I was really pleased for the team and how they played,” said the 21-year-old. “I’ve often said that I’m happy to be a part of this team and after such a great victory, I had to go and celebrate with the fans.” +++
