++ Jóhannsson and Bargfrede return: They are back! Aron Jóhannsson and Philipp Bargfrede have been able to take part in first-team training again this week. Jóhannsson has been out since September last year with a long-term hip injury, while Bargfrede has been unable to train with the team since March. Both players have now been able to take a big step towards their comebacks. “It felt great to finally be able to be on the pitch with the boys again, but I know there is still a long way to go,” said Jóhannsson on WERDER.DE. Both of them were also able to take part in the match at the end of training on Thursday afternoon.+++

++ 15 years of Arnd and Stolli: Arnie Zeigler and Christian “Stolli” Stoll have lead the stadium program at the Weser-Stadion and entertained the audience during and after every Werder game for the last 15 years. They began hosting matchdays together on 4th August 2001 exactly 15 years ago, when Werder beat Energie Cottbus 3-2. The fun of the job has not diminished in the past 15 years: “I don’t imagine that the job will become boring or routine anytime soon. To smell thr grass, be so close to the action and to be a part of the whole thing in a small way is a priviledge that I will always hold dear to me. It all continues next Sunday.”

++ New recruits: Werder have announced two new players in Max Kruse and Lamine Sané this week. The 28-year-old Germany international has not only been active on the training ground since Thursday but also on social media. Kruse has been posting numerous updates on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat (jimmyhendrix10). The Senagalese defender is also an active presence on social media. The 1.92 metres tall centre-back can be found on Facebook, Twiter and Instagram. +++

++ Alex says thanks: He will be returning home after two years at the Weser. Alejandro Gálvez will be playing in Spain for SD Eibar next season. In his farewell message, the 27-year-old thanked the club, his team mates, the coaches and most of all the Werder fans. “You have shown us that there was enough reason to continue fighting. Werder has been a very important step in my professional career,” he tweeted. The defender played his first game for the Basque club on Thursday against FC Köln. The Spanish first-division side lost 2-0 in Kitzbühel, where Gálvez and his new club are preparing for the upcoming season.  We wish you all the best with your future endeavours, Alex! +++

++ Draw against defending champions: The Germany Olympic team, including Eric Oelschlägel, played their first match of the Olympic football tournament late on Thursday evening against London 2012 gold medalists Mexico. In Slavador. Germany went behind twice but were able to get back on level terms both times, thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry and Matthias Ginter. The 2-2 draw in the end reflected the game. The DFB Olympic team will play their next match in the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador as well, when they face South Korea, bronze medalists at London 2012 on Sunday, 7th August at 21:00 CEST. The South Koreans beat Fiji 8-0 in their opening game of the tournament. +++
