Justin Eilers has to undergo groin surgery. The operation is necessary after the player has suffered from ongoing problems. The new signing from Dynamo Dresden will undergo surgery in Berlin on Friday by specialist Dr. Jens Krüger. The attacking player transferred to Werder Bremen from Drittliga Champions Dynamo Dresden this summer; however, he hasn’t been able to train with the team yet and he has missed all pre-season preparations and the beginning of the competitive season. Eilers will likely need a few weeks to recover before he is re-introduced to training.

Santiago Garcia is also not able to train with the team. Instead he is training individually because of the muscle injury he sustained in his upper left thigh in the training camp in Zillertal. It still hasn’t been confirmed when he will return to full training. Lamine Sané also won’t train with the rest of the team on Thursday afternoon. “We want to protect his knee and prepare him for next week’s training over the next few days,” explains Dr. Heitmann. It is presumed that he will resume training at the beginning of next week.

On the other hand, Claudio Pizarro’s situation looks positive. The Peruvian missed the opening match against FC Bayern München because of a muscle injury in his left calf. The 37-year old wants to resume fitness training on Thursday afternoon. “If everything goes to plan, I should be able to slowly make progress,” said Pizarro. He seemed positive about featuring in the first home game of the season against FC Augsburg on Sunday 11th September. “We’re optimistic that I’ll be ready to play.”
