Zlatko Junuzovic returned to team training today ahead of the home match against Schalke 04 on Tuesday, 4th April 2017 (20:00 CEST). The Austrian, who missed the match in Freiburg with the flu, took full part in team training. “We will make a decision together. If he is fit, he will play,” told head coach Alexander Nouri. “I’m generally an optimist, so I’ll assume he’ll play,” the Werder coach continued.

Serge Gnabry and Philipp Bargfrede both completed individual training sessions with physio Jens Beulke, while Robert Bauer and Lamine Sané could not take part at all after picking up injuries in Freiburg.

Bauer: "The ankle is looking relatively good."

While Sané (adductor problems) worked in the gym, Bauer (ankle ligament) received treatment at the Weserstadion. “The ankle is looking relatively good, it’s a bit swollen. It’s important that the swelling goes away and then it’s about how much pain I feel before I can play again. I’m quite optimistic that I will go away quickly,” Bauer told WERDER.TV.

The injury brought back old memories for the 21-year-old. “I suffered pretty much the same injury on the same foot on 1st April two years ago. I hope that it won’t become a habit,” told Bauer of his deja-vu, before reflecting positively “but last time it was worse because I tore a few more ligaments.”
