Werder Bremen and SK Slavia Prague have come to an agreement on the transfer of goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka. Werder's sporting director made the announcement on Tuesday at midday. The Czech international is expected in Bremen later on this week to complete a medical and officially sign his contract.

"We're very pleased that we convinced Jiri to join Werder. We've followed his development intently over the last few years. He's done very well, made the step up to international football with the Czech Republic and performed consistently well for Slavia Prague last season," said Frank Baumann.

Head coach Alexander Nouri is also pleased with the new signing: "We're convinced that Jiri will add a tremendous amount to our team both on and off the pitch. He showed his quality last season, but also has enormous potential. I'm looking forward to helping him fulfil his potential."

The 25-year-old goalkeeper is excited about his new challenge: "The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world and Werder is a big club. I've only heard good things about Werder and Bremen from Theo and Jaro. I'm looking forward to being part of this team in the future."

The Czech goalie, who stands at 1.96m tall, won the Czech first division with SK Slavia Prague last season. Pavlenka, who played at FK Banik Ostrau in his youth, made 103 appearances in total in the Czech top division and also played four times in the Europa League. He's won two caps for the Czech Republic.
