The second signing for next season has been confirmed: Jérome Gondorf is switching from Darmstadt 98 to Werder. Frank Baumann announced the news on Tuesday morning saying, “We’ve agreed a deal with the player and are expecting all parties to sign very soon,” said Baumann. Gondorf has already passed his medical.  Details about the transfer fee have not been released.

“We’re very pleased to have brought Jérome to Werder. He’s developed impressively during his two years at Darmstadt and continues to catch the eye with good performances. Jérome is a strong runner and physical, but is also good on the ball. He’ll bring these qualities to our team and to our matches,” said Frank Baumann.

“I’ve had the privilege of experiencing the Weser-Stadion’s atmosphere as a guest and look forward to enjoying the crowd’s support wearing Werder colours. SVW are a big club who have come a long way over the last few months. I want to play a part in helping them take the next step,” said the 28-year-old midfielder. “The fans can look forward to a player who will always give his all and can’t wait to take on the tasks ahead,” said Gondorf on himself.

Jérome Gondorf, who was born in Karlsruhe, joined their youth ranks at the age of 17. Having played for SV Spielberg, ASV Durlach, and the Stuttgart Kickers, the talented player then made the move to SV Darmstadt 98 in 2013. The ‘Lilies’ and Gondorf rose from the third tier of German football all the way to the Bundesliga, and has 61 top-flight appearances and six goals to his name so far.
