The last stage of the season: World Cup qualification. Whilst the Green-Whites playing for Austria, led by new Werder captain Zlatko Junuzovic, had to settle for a draw in Ireland, Niklas Moisander and Finland lost to Ukraine.
The trio of Green-Whites in action for Austria, namely: Zlatko Junuzovic, Florian Kainz and Florian Grillitsch, played in a World Cup qualifier in Dublin on Sunday evening. Austria grabbed the lead thanks to a goal from Martin Hinteregger, but Ireland equalised late on through Jonathan Walters. It ended 1-1 in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, meaning that Austria remain in third place in Group D. Zlatko Junuzovic played 79 minutes before coming off for Florian Grillitsch, whilst Florian Kainz was brought off in the 89th minute.
Unfortunately for Niklas Moisander, things didn’t quite go his way. The Finland captain couldn’t prevent his side from losing 2-1 to Ukraine, although he played the full 90 minutes. The result meant that Finland are no longer able to qualify for the World Cup.
New Werder signing Ludwig Augustinsson will be playing for Sweden on Tuesday (13/06/2017) in a friendly against Norway. Ulisses Garcia will also be in action with Switzerland against Bosnia and Herzegovina as his U21 side look to qualify for the European Championships.
