The international break is over, meaning Werder’s internationals will now start returning to Bremen. As the international break was coming to a close, many Green-Whites were either in World Cup qualification action, or featuring in friendlies for their respective countries. WERDER.DE summarises the latest SVW international action.

In Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic’s 1-1 draw with Denmark saw current Werder defender Theodor Gebre Selassie start for the Czechs against former Green-White Jannik Vestergaard and future SVW player, Thomas Delaney. Gebre Selassie was subbed off in the 66th minute, after being involved in several good goal-scoring opportunities. Antonin Barak scored early on for the Czech Republic, before Nicolai Jorgensen equalised for Denmark in the 38th minute.

The all-Werder clash in World Cup qualifying Group H also ended 1-1, as Izet Hajrovic’s Bosnia and Herzegovina met Thanos Petsos’ Greece. Hajrovic almost featured for the full 90 minutes, but he was subbed off with three minutes to go of normal time. Petsos on the other hand remained an unused substitute.

Serge Gnabry got his second Germany senior team cap on Tuesday evening in Milan, as Italy hosted Germany in what has been a classic fixture over the years. The winger was subbed on by Joachim Löw in the 60th minute for Leon Goretzka, but ultimately couldn’t do anything to change the game, as it ended 0-0.

László Kleinheisler played 74 minute of Hungary’s convincing 4-0 win in World Cup qualifying against Andorra. The midfielder, who’s currently on loan at Darmstadt 98, then didn’t feature in his nation’s 2-0 friendly loss to Sweden a few days later.

Jürgen Klinsmann’s USA haven’t got off to a good start in the final stage of CONCACAF qualifying. Werder striker Aron Jóhannsson didn’t play in neither the 2-1 loss to Mexico, nor the 4-0 defeat to Costa Rica.

Michael Zetterer’s debut with the Germany U21s was a successful one on a personal level, even though his team lost 1-0. The Green-White keeper kept a clean sheet in the first half, before Timon Wellenreuther of FC Schalke 04 replaced him at half time. His replacement was however helpless to stop the only goal of the game. Leon Guwara, who’s currently on loan at Darmstadt 98, will have to wait for his debut in coach Stefan Kuntz’ team, as he remained on the bench.

Two Werder players spent their international break in Spain, as they attended the Germany U19s’ training camp near Barcelona. In their only game, Germany lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic, with Schmidt playing the second half of this tie. Eggestein, who was carrying a slight knock, didn’t feature.

A bit further south, Marbella specifically, Ulisses García was in action for the Switzerland U21s. In their second game against Russia in four days, García entered the fray in the 22nd minute and his team ran out 3-2 winners.
