The unlucky defeat to FC Bayern at the weekend didn’t just leave a sour taste in Werder mouths because the Green-Whites went away without any points, but also because the game saw a trio of names added to the injury list. Alongside Claudio Pizarro, two other Bremen players picked up injuries from the match with the record champions. Contrary to this pattern however, there was one returnee to the training ground on Tuesday in the form of Aron Jóhannsson. The USA international has overcome calf problems to return to full team training.

For two weeks, Aron Jóhannsson hasn’t been able to take part in training with his teammates, but he was back today. An hour before the squad headed to the training pitches, captain Clemens Fritz was out following an individual programme as he has been suffering from neck problems. “I don’t exactly know how my neck will react to the workload,” commented Werder’s No. 8. “I don’t have a problems doing things like this, but when I do more vigorous movements I get dizzy.” According to head coach Alexander Nouri, the captain should return to training on Wednesday, along with Fin Bartels who has been suffering with the flu.

Claudio Pizarro and Lamine Sané will however have to be a little more patient. The Peruvian he is suffering from thigh problems and travelled to Munich on Monday to be treated: “Claudio is having a rest today, after we’ll have to see how he is day by day,” explained Nouri on Tuesday. Sané, whose knee problems have returned since the Bayern game, is expected back in team training on Thursday.

Finally, Niklas Moisander is set to miss this Saturday’s game against FC Augsburg due to a pulled thigh, the Finn felt discomfort in his leg during the final stages of the match against Bayern. Jaroslav Droby, who would be suspended for the visit to FCA anyway, should return to team training by the end of the week. There is no set return date for Philipp Bargfrede and Florian Grillitsch, but the both of them are working on their comebacks.
