The town on the Weser also left a lasting impression on the Swede, even though he has only had short visits to Bremen. “I’ve lived in similarly big cities. There appear to be some good restaurants and my wife and I are looking forward to moving to this city together.” With just over 500,000 citizens, the two previous cities in which Augustinsson has played, Göteborg and Copenhagen, are almost exactly as big as Bremen. Augustinsson’s birthplace and hometown, Stockholm, is a little bigger.
As a young professional, Augustinsson moved from his hometown to Göteborg and then two and a half years later, he tasted success with FC Copenhagen. The Swede won two cups and three championships in the Danish capital. He played for a year and a half alongside Thomas Delaney, who he will soon meet again at Werder and someone who he describes as “a buddy”. “I spoke to Thomas and asked him, honestly, whether he had anything negative to say. But he only spoke about the quality of the team and how great the fans are,” explained ‘Lude’, as his friends call him.
The defender is ambitious and already has aims that he wants to achieve at Werder. “The club is growing at the moment. I think that I’ll be able to develop my skills,” said Augustinsson. Before pre-season gets underway for the Green-Whites in July, the Stockholm born defender is currently on international duty and then plans to take a well-deserved holiday.
