Fans following the Werder player’s first training session on Tuesday morning might have a few questions. Ten players who regularly trained last week were not present. The majority of these players, including Theodor Gebre Selassie, Lamine Sané, Niklas Moisander and Santiago García were working in the weights room. Both central midfielders Clemens Fritz and Zlatko Junuzovic were also following a program in the gym. All six players will return to full team training on Tuesday afternoon. Serge Gnabry is training individually indoors after bruising his vertebrae in the match against Bayer Leverkusen.

Fallou Diagne, Sambou Yatabaré and Maximilian Eggestein did not take part in training this morning. Instead, the trio will be training with the U23s until the next international break. “We have decided to make the training group smaller so we can work more effectively on certain exercises,” explains head coach Alexander Nouri. “The door hasn’t closed for them. We are always in contact with the U23 coaching team.

Johannes Eggestein and Niklas Schmidt are back in team training. The two Germany U19 players just played three matches in six days during the international break and had a few days rest before returning to training in order to recover.

Philipp Bargfrede trained individually after the morning team training session finished. The 27-year old did co-ordination and running exercises as part of his recovery program.
