Alexander Nouri was in a great mood as he spoke to journalists after Werder Bremen’s first away win of the season. The result could have been more comfortable, had his side been more clinical on the counter, however, the resolute defending meant that this didn’t overly matter, as SVW became the first side to leave Berlin with all three points in 2016/17.
WERDER.DE spoke to the protagonists of the game after the final whistle in the capital.
Clemens Fritz: “We played well today and deserved to win the game. It never felt dicey out there. However, if we’d taken another one of our chances, it would have been more comfortable. At the end of the day we still won the game. It wasn’t lucky, we deserved it.”
Alexander Nouri: “We played the perfect away match. The overall performance impressed me today. The lads worked hard together and deserved the win. We were patient and were impressive on the counter when we had the chance. We’ve played like this in recent weeks but were rewarded for our efforts today.”
Max Kruse: “We were strong in the tackle, showed plenty of will and fight but also played good football. The lads worked well together, stayed compact and kept at it constantly. We also had a bit of luck. We deserved to win the game.”
Frank Baumann: “We came here with a winning mentality and you could see that out on the pitch. If you don’t think you can win, you don’t stand a chance. We didn’t give much away today and stood firm throughout.”
Max Kruse: “Errors lead to goals – that’s nothing new. We reacted well to the situation. However, we also created a number of chances ourselves during the game.”
Serge Gnabry: “I got there a bit too late, but Niklas, a good friend of mine, made an error. The high pressing worked to our advantage today.”
Clemens Fritz: “Niklas Stark presented Max with the opportunity, but even there was still a lot to do. At the break he told me that he wasn’t fully aware of where the keeper was positioned, but that’s not important really, seeing as he scored!”
Alexander Nouri: “We’ll be giving it our all once again during these matches. We’re facing two good sides. I’m sure that we’ll get rewarded, provided we show spirit and intelligence.”
Clemens Fritz: “We need to work similarly hard in the coming week in order to give ourselves the best chance of claiming a few more points before Christmas. We need to perform in a similar manner in order to achieve anything.”
Frank Baumann: “We need to draw on the positives from today and make the most of them. There’s a big week of training ahead of us.”
Max Kruse: “We’ve taken seven points from our last three games, but have two tough matches ahead of us. We’re not happy with our overall tally yet. We know that Köln have similar qualities to Hertha. We need to make the most of the current euphoria and perform similarly next weekend.”
Alexander Nouri: “He scored a good goal but played well from start to finish and didn’t stop fighting. His quality benefits us and I’m sure he’s going to bring us a lot more joy in the coming months.”
Frank Baumann: “We signed him because he has the potential to be a very influential player for us. We’ve missed his quality in recent weeks. He’s in good form and is getting better.”
Frank Baumann: “He was solid at the back today. He was excellent in the air and coming off his line. His experience shone through.”
Clemens Fritz: “He was in great form today.”
