The Werder first team players began their preparation for the weekend’s game at Ingolstadt on Wednesday afternoon. The Werder boys were given two days off to recover from their derby day exploits. Izet Hajrovic and Thomas Delaney trained individually on the training pitches on Wednesday. Werder captain Clemens Fritz trained for the first time in the gym at the Weser Stadion on Wednesday morning.

Izet Hajrovic has been out for four and a half months, but everyday he is making small progress. The Bosnia international has done large parts of his rehabilitation in Belgrade, but has been training with Werder rehab coach Jens Beulke in Bremen since Monday. The 25-year-old was able to train outdoors for the first time on Wednesday: “It’s a nice feeling to finally be back on the pitch. I’m always positive, but today I feel a little bit better,” said Hajrovic. Thomas Delaney also trained individually on Wednesday as he continues his recovery and nears a comeback.

Clemens Fritz is also making progress as he recovers from injury. The Werder captain is taking it one step at a time and is gradually increasing the intensity of his training. Today he did some work in the gym at the Weser Stadion. “Until recently I had a ski shoe on, but now I can exchange it for a smaller shoe. In the coming weeks, the screw will be removed and then I’ll see how my ankle feels,” said Fritz.

Max Kruse and Lamine Sané did not train on Wednesday. The central defender is suffering from a common illness and Kruse trained individually in the gym at the Weser Stadion.
