The Werder players have had a few days to re-energise after the dramatic, late draw in Leverkusen. Now the attention turns to preparing for their next opponent. On Tuesday morning they were in the gym and in the afternoon they took to the training pitch. Serge Gnabry was present after recovering from a knee injury and joins his teammates for full first-team training.

Gnabry has been testing his knee in individual training and we will have to wait and see how the 21-year-old copes with his first full contact training session. His early return means that a return to match action this coming weekend is not out of the question.

Werder’s vice captain Zlatko Junuzovic is on the brink of a return to first-team training, but he trained individually on Tuesday as he completes his recovery from a back injury sustained in the match against Darmstadt.

At the start of a week which sees Werder take on second in the table Leipzig on Saturday, only goalkeeper Michael Zetterer and Philipp Bargfrede remain on the sidelines. Both trained individually indoors on Tuesday afternoon.
