"After a very good first year for him at Werder, Serge has informed us that he would like to take the next step in his career. He will therefore activate a clause in his contract and leave the club at the end of the month," explained Baumann. Head coach Alexander expressed his regret at losing Bremen's second-best goalscorer last season. "It's obviously a pity as Serge was a go-to guy for us, someone who has undergone a remarkable development and has helped the team enormously with his performances. We will him all the best for the future," said Nouri.
Serge Gnabry joined Werder from Arsenal FC last summer and made a total of 27 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites, scoring eleven goals and providing two assists. The attacking midfielder also received his first call-up to the Germany national team during his time at Bremen, marking his senior debut in November 2016 with a hat-trick against San Marino.
