National team coach Joachim Löw announced on Friday that Serge Gnabry has been selected for the Germany first team for the first time in his career. “It’s a special distinction to be selected for the first team and to play for Germany, I’ll try to give my best,” commented the 21 year old.

“Serge has settled down very quickly in Bremen and since his arrival, has started to develop superbly. The call-up is a reward for his good performances and an incentive to carry on the way he’s going,” explained sporting director Frank Baumann. “We’re very happy for Serge, being selected for the national team is always special,” said his club team coach, Alexander Nouri.

Gnabry has made ten appearances for the U21s and won the silver medal with Germany at the Rio Olympics in the summer. Originally from Stuttgart, the attacker is the first Werder player since Aaron Hunt in 2013 to be selected for the Germany national team.
