SV Werder Bremen will be without captain Clemens Fritz for the coming months. The 36-year-old suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle against SV Darmstadt last weekend and was operated on on Wednesday morning in Tübingen.
"Clemens was in Munich until yesterday evening to receive treatment and be informed on different treatment methods. On the advice of the doctors and after lengthy discussions with our medical team, he decided to undergo an operation. We assume will be out for the rest of the season," explained Frank Baumann, Werder's sporting director.
Clemens Fritz's future at the club beyond this season remains open for now. "We have always emphasised that Clemens can be an important pillar in this team next season. At the appropriate time we will sit down together and talk. Clemens and we will approach this topic calmly. Now the priority is getting him fully recovered as quickly as possible," continued Baumann.
