Werder skipper Clemens Fritz has returned to Bremen following successful ankle surgery. The procedure was performed in Tübingen on Wednesday after it was revealed that the 36-year-old will be out for the rest of the season. “The operation went well and there were no issues,” the midfielder told WERDER.DE. He expects to begin his rehabilitation in Bremen in a few weeks time.

After securing a deserved point in Leverkusen on Friday night, the rest of the team arrived at the training ground on Saturday morning for a short recovery session, after which they will enjoy two days off. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry and Philipp Bargfrede are working on making their returns. Gnabry, who was sidelined in the BayArena due to a knee issue, hopes to return to full training next week. Both he and Bargfrede will train individually in Bremen over the weekend.
