WERDER.DE sums up the most important statements from our captain below.
Clemens Fritz on...
... the work of Alexander Nouri: “He is a very good communicator and motivates the team well. He works meticulously and calmly, but also raises his voice at times. He never gets tired of pointing out our mistakes. He has everything. When things are going well you have to give the team some space. He is doing that and finding a good balance in that regard. It’s completely normal to get criticised after the start we had, but he remained calm and believed in his philosophy. He comes across like a buddy of ours. He’s very close to the team, but also demands hard work. He’s doing a fine job.”
... Werder’s winning run: “Mainz and Wolfsburg were two key games in which we certainly had luck on our side. That allowed us to start this run. Now we can show the true quality of our team.”
... Werder’s improved defence: “In the last few years and in the first half of this campaign we conceded the most goals in the Bundesliga. We worked on that during the winter break. We changed to a three-man backline, but also want to stay flexible and return to a four-man defence if necessary. I think we’ve found a good balance. We are able to control games and keep the ball in our possession.”
... his progress while returning from injury: “Everything is taking a bit longer. Last week they removed a screw seven weeks after my first surgery. I now have to try and get the movement back into my foot.”
... his future: “I’ve thought long and hard about it. I’m having good discussions with Frank Baumann and I will announce my decision soon.”
