Clemens Fritz is Bremen’s “Sportsman of the Year 2016”. The SV Werder midfielder received the traditional award on Tuesday evening at the sport gala dinner. Fritz was rewarded for his services as the Green-Whites captain in the Bundesliga.
“I’m delighted to win this award and feel very honoured,” said Fritz. The 36-year-old, who is likely to be out for the rest of the season due to injury, collected his prize on crutches.
Fritz collected his trophy at what is the most important awards evening of the year for the Green-Whites. Werder greats such as Marco Bode, Rune Bratseth, Fabian Ernst, Rudi Völler and Dieter Eilts have received the award in previous years.
