Felix Wiedwald has found himself behind Jaroslav Drobny over the past few weeks. However, the 26 year old will likely have a chance this weekend to show what he can do, as the Werder No. 1 is suspended after receiving a red card against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The topic of this interview with WERDER.TV, is the fast-paced nature of professional football.

WERDER.TV: On Saturday, you experienced firsthand how quickly things can change in football, how was the 39th minute from your perspective?

Felix Wiedwald: “Yes, you saw then how quickly things move. Of course I was happy to play, even if I felt bad for Drobo. However, I now have to chance to prove myself, I gave everything in preseason and give everything in every training session to be ready for these kinds of situations.”

WERDER.TV: How else have you experience this fast-paced nature of football?

Felix Wiedwald: “Things you’ve done before are easily forgotten. Everyone always has to keep proving themselves, but that’s a part of my job. I have to deal with it and can deal with it. I know I have to push myself. Not many people in the Bundesliga have experienced that like it had to.

WERDER.TV: Does this fast-moving nature in football reflect your private life, or is it something you leave in the dressing room?

Felix Wiedwald: “Outside of football, with transfers every two years, I live with a lot of continuity. I’ve been with my wife for a very long time now, we’re married and I would like to stay with her for a long time. Going for walks with Kim and our dogs provides a good balance to football, of course I would like this continuity in my job. Like everyone knows, I’m from here and therefore I’m 100 percent motivated to be successful with Werder.

WERDER.TV: The key word here is “continuity”. You are out of contract in the summer, what's the situation?

Felix Wiedwald: “As is common knowledge, I have a clause in my contract which means it is in my own hands. If I put in some impressive performances, of course there is the possibility that I will remain in goal until the summer.”
