Former Bundesliga footballer Markus Feldhoff has completed head coach Alexander Nouri’s coaching team, the 42 year old will begin his new role with the Green-Whites on Wednesday.

“Markus was my ideal candidate for this position. We played together at Uerdingen and Osnabrück and in the years following we remained always in regular contact. We have similar ideas which we would like to get across to the players as a coaching team and realise our philosophies on the pitch. Therefore, I’m sure that he’ll be a great addition to our coaching team,” explained head coach Alexander Nouri.

Markus Feldhoff, who most recently sat on the bench at third division side SC Paderborn as assistant coach, is really looking forward to this new challenge. “I didn’t have to think about it long when I found out about the interest in me. Werder are one of the most well-known clubs in Germany and are a new, appealing challenge in my career,” said Feldhoff, who thanked the management at SC Paderborn for agreeing to such a short-term move.

Sporting director Frank Baumann sees Werder’s coaching team as well set-up for the future: “Markus Feldhoff was a Bundesliga player himself and was on the bench for years at FC Energie Cottbus in the second division. We’re convinced that his experiences will be positive for the team.”

In his playing career, Markus Feldhoff wore the jerseys of Bayer 05 Uerdingen, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, VfL Wolfsburg, FC Energie Cottbus, KFC Uerdingen and VfL Osnabrück, contesting around 150 Bundesliga games, 30 second division games and 90 Regionaliga games. He retired in 2008 and pursued a career in coaching, amongst others, he was assistant coach at VfL Osnabrück (2009) and FC Energie Cottbus (2009-2012), where he was also given the role as interim coach in 2011 for a short period. In 2014, he obtained his coaching badges and was the coach of the SC Paderborn U19s between 2014 and 2016. In March of this year, he became the assistant coach of the third division side.
