SV Werder Bremen recorded their 750th Bundesliga victory on Saturday evening against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with 19-year-old Ousman Manneh scoring the winner with his first professional goal. The Green-Whites put in a fantastic fighting performance against the Champions League side and held on to their lead to record a narrow win. "It was a win that required hard work," remarked skipper Clemens Fritz after the game. Manager Alexander Nouri was also full of praise after the game: "We played as a team. We perfectly executed both tempo changes in our attacking play and pressing as well as keeping a compact shape in defence."

WERDER.DE was in the mixed zone after the match and has put together the key statements from the Green-Whites.

On the game:

Clemens Fritz: We put in a brave performance against an absolute top side and we earned this win. We attacked them early, but also looked to drop back at times in order to catch our breath. We worked on this change in rhythm in training and executed it well today."

Alexander Nouri: "Once again, we invested a lot today and played to our limits. We secured a deserved victory against a fantastic side with extremely strong individual players. It was a great team performance. Everyone was willing to fight for one another. I really enjoyed the opening 15 minutes. We kept changing our rhythm from pressing in attack to keeping a compact defensive shape. At times we had some issues on the left flank, which also resulted from Serge's injury. Leverkusen were able to take control of the game and we conceded possession far too easily at times, but fortunately we were able to turn it around again."

Zlatko Junuzovic: "Everyone was there for each other on the pitch. We showed great team spirit and prevailed. Our performance meant that the fans got behind us and once again their support was great. The Weserstadion is becoming a fortress, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to stay focussed now. A very difficult game awaits us in Leipzig."

Felix Wiedwald: "We invested a lot into the game today. We were compact in defence and didn't allow many chances apart from when they scored. We can build on this performance."

Izet Hajrovic: "It was a good performance, especially in terms of our running and how much ground we covered. We always remained focussed and pulled through. We were compact in defence and had the necessary firepower in attack."

On the change in goal:

Felix Wiedwald: "As a player you obviously always want to play. When I'm on the pitch, I always give my best and try to help my team. Even better if we then manage to win."

Alexander Nouri: "Like the entire team, Felix showed a great performance and played his part in this victory. He turned his frustration into energy and has always supported the team in recent weeks. That's what I call team spirit and he was rewarded for it today."

On the injuries:

Clemens Fritz: "I have some minor problems with my thigh and at half-time I told the coaching staff that I would let them know if I couldn't keep going. I don't think it's anything severe."

Alexander Nouri: "Serge suffered a knock to one of his vertebrae and the first diagnosis is a bruised spine. The pain made his muscles tighten up. He fought through but wasn't able to keep going anymore. I don't want to speculate how long he will be sidelined."

Izet Hajrovic: "Ahead of my substitution I felt a light pain in my calf, but I don't think it's anything serious. It's my right leg anyway and I only need that to get on a bus."

On the next games:

Zlatko Junuzovic: "It's normal to experience ups and downs - that's just the way it goes. We can't allow ourselves to sit back now but instead need to keep going where we left off today. If we manage to keep up this fighting attitude and our willingness to cover a lot of ground, we will have a lot of opportunities for points these next few weeks."

Clemens Fritz: "This win will give us some breathing space. Our plan is to keep collecting point after point and become a real force again at home."

Alexander Nouri: "Next week we will have some more time to work on details. We will be working intensively on our pressing and on counter attacks. It's important that we are persistent and diligent. Our performance was good for certain spells today, but not for the entire game. There is a lot of work awaiting us, starting Monday."
