SV Werder will face the Würzburger Kickers in the first round of the DFB Pokal - that is the result of the draw that took place in the German football museum on late Sunday afternoon. Sebastian Kehl drew the teams out of the hat, and was assisted by DFB president Reinhard Grindel. The first-round clashes will all take place between the 11th and 14th of August. No games currently have a set time or date.
This match will be a repeat of the first round two years ago, when the Green-Whites overcame the Kickers 2-0 at the Flyeralarm Arena.
Head coach Alexander Nouri is looking forward to the game: “We know how hard the game will be, but it’s obviously our aim to come out on top there.”
For Werder’s sporting director Frank Baumann, it’ll be a “special game” in his home town. “The match two years ago was extremely close and hard for us, even though we left the pitch as winners in the end. I’m also not expecting an easy game this time. Würzburg will be raring to go at the start of next season despite having been relegated to the third division, and will certainly have one or two games behind them.”
