There were just thirteen players present at Tuesday’s Werder Bremen training session. This was due to the fact that many of the Werder first team are currently away on international duty. In preparation for the friendly match against VfB Oldenburg on Wednesday, head coach Alexander Nouri brought in three U23 players to first-team training to boost the numbers.

Full internationals Serge Gnabry and Florian Grillitsch were, however, also at the training ground in Bremen. “Serge is going to head to Munich in the next couple of days, like last time, to receive treatment,” said head coach Alexander Nouri. Grillitsch, one of the goalscorers against RB Leipzig, picked up a knock in that match and is sitting out training as a precaution.

Fin Bartels left the training pitches early on Tuesday, again as a precautionary measure. The winger had a back complaint and headed back to the dressing room half-way through session.

Max Kruse was also missing from team training, but Nouri was confident he isn’t too far from a return. “We’re hoping that Max will be back in team training in the next few days,” said Nouri on the situation with the 29-year-old attacker, who is already doing individual work in preparation for a return.

Dominic Volkmer, Luca-Milan Zander and Björn Rother were three players from the U23 squad who participated in first-team training on Tuesday.  Jonas Hupe, Werder‘s U19 goalkeeper, was also involved.
