Alexander Nouri: “It feels like the game only really began in the second half. We weren’t tight enough to our man before the break; we gave our opponents too much room and were too passive – I wasn’t pleased with that. The team showed a reaction in the second half, were more committed and showed more courage, and that led to some goalscoring opportunities. Those are the positives that we can take away from that game.”
Clemens Fritz: “We didn’t get into the game in the first half. Darmstadt were stronger in the challenges and we didn’t show enough courage. We changed up our tactics for the second half and looked a lot better. We tried to find pockets of space, made Darmstadt do the running and deservedly went in front. We showed real desire and that was positive to see. The fact that we conceded two goals but allowed the opponents very little overall doesn’t reflect well on us though.”
Serge Gnabry: “We played too many long balls in the first half. We started to play football after the break and suddenly things were going a lot better. We could have ended up winning today, but we will have to defend certain situations better in future if we want to see out results. It’s difficult to pick up points when you keep on letting in goals.”
Zlatko Junuzovic: “At the end of the day, a draw was a fair result. The first half was very stop-and-start, and then we were unlucky to go behind from the spot. We switched to a front two in the second half and had more bite, moved the ball about better and had more sight of goal. We had a couple of chances after their equaliser, but we will take the point.”
