Defender Luca Caldirola underwent a successful operation on his left foot on Thursday. The 26-year-old was operated on by Prof. Hahn in Klinikum Mitte who removed a tile and a screw from Caldirola’s left ankle which had been in place since he sustained the injury last autumn. The Italian, who is currently out with a broken bone in the centre of his right foot, will carry out his rehabilitation in Bremen and work towards a comeback.

“The operation went well and I feel good. The procedure was planned and the medical department gave it the go-ahead weeks ago. I was a little irritated about some media reports. It was not a setback in my healing process,” explained Caldirola.
