Our worst fears have been confirmed, Luca Caldirola will miss the rest of the first half of the campaign. The defender suffered a fractured fibula and ligament damage in Werder’s home game against FC Augsburg and will be out for between three to four months. The Italian underwent surgery on Sunday evening.
“It’s very bitter for Luca and another set-back for us. Luca was in good shape and will be out for a few months. We hope his recovery goes as well so he can return to the pitch as soon as possible,” commented sporting director, Frank Baumann.
Head coach Viktor Skripnik had some kind words to say about his player after the game: “Luca is someone who won’t give up and will fight back with all his might, even after suffering this kind of set-back. We’ll miss him and we’ll give him all the support he needs.”
Caldirola shared a message on his official Instagram account on Monday morning: “The operation went well and I’ll come back even stronger. This injury won’t keep me down.”
The 25 year old suffered the injury just before the end of the encounter with Augsburg, as he went into a challenge with Caiuby and jarred his ankle after getting his studs caught in the turf.
