Robert Bauer has returned to Werder first-team training just twelve days after suffering ankle ligament damage in the game against Freiburg. The 22-year-old linked up with first-team on Thursday afternoon, with head coach Alexander Nouri saying, "Robert will train this afternoon with the team. The medical department has done a good job and he’s contributed to his quick return by having a good mentality. We’ll now wait and see how he copes with the increased intensity,” said Nouri at the Thursday’s press conference.

It’s still unclear as to whether Bauer will be ready for a return to match action in the Nordderby against Hamburg on Sunday (15:30 CEST). Bauer had to be substituted before half-time in the away win in Freiburg after a challenge with ex-Werder man Aleksandar Ignjovski had left with ligament damage in his left ankle. Bauer explained that he can still remember the pain he felt: “I was first treated in the dressing room when the doctor pressed down on my ankle. I nearly died.” But just under two weeks later, Bauer is back in training and looking to prove his fitness ahead of the big match on Sunday.
