SV Werder Bremen fans can already look forward to a new signing in the summer, as Ludwig Augustinsson will sign from FC Copenhagen at the start of the next transfer window. The left-back will be the second player in a year that has transferred to the Green-Whites from the Danish first-division side after Thomas Delaney.

“We’re very happy that Ludwig chose Werder so early despite other teams showing interest in him, and that we were able to convince him not only of our philosophy, but also of our footballing vision at Werder and in the Bundesliga,” explained Frank Baumann, who has followed the development of the 22 year old since his time as an U17s player. “He showed promise at Göteborg and Copenhagen with very good performances and has become a constant in the national team,” said the sporting director.

Head coach Alexander Nouri is also please with the new man: “Ludwig is strong defensively and can also play on the left of midfield as well as left-back. He’s a great guy who’ll fit right in to the squad and offer us further options on the pitch.”

Augustinsson learnt his trade at IF Brommapojkarna, before transferring to IFK Göteborg where he won the Swedish Cup. The left-back then signed for FC Copenhagen and became a teammate of Werder’s winter signing Delaney until the end of 2016. With Copenhagen, he won the Danish Cup in 2015 and then the double the following year. With the Sweden U21s, he triumphed in the European Championship in the Czech Republic and also took part in last summer’s Euros in France with the senior team.
