Max Kruse is making progress. Werder’s summer recruit has already been on the sidelines for more than a month, but at last the 28-year-old had some good news to share in a live video on his official Facebook page. He said a few words for his fans, and rode on his personal exercise bike for the first time since sustaining the injury.

“I can finally move again, which feels really good. I went to the stadium without crutches on Saturday, and now I can start riding my bike again,” said Kruse happily. He originally tore his knee ligaments in the cup match against Lotte, but now the Germany international is making definite steps towards a full recovery since undergoing a successful operation at the beginning of the month.

But the forward still didn’t want to give a date for when exactly he would be able to return to the squad. “That depends how my leg responds to movement. But it’s a good start, and my knee is looking a lot better,” was Kruse’s optimistic outlook. Until he is available again, the team will have to continue to approach the next few challenges without him. “I hope the win against Wolfsburg will give us a boost, and that we can follow it up with a positive result in Darmstadt,” said Kruse.

Meanwhile, Claudio Pizarro is also working hard on making his comeback. Like Kruse, the Peruvian has not been able to feature in the Bundesliga yet this season, but in his individual training session on Wednesday morning, he worked with the ball again for the first time. “It went very well today,” Pizarro told ‘Sky Sport News HD’.

The 37-year-old could not yet confirm whether he will be able to train with the team as early as next week. Werder’s record goalscorer has been battling muscular problems for the past few weeks.
