Theodor Gebre Selassie's celebration following his 2-1 winning header against VfL Wolfsburg was almost as impressive as the strike itself, as he jumped over the advertising banners to celebrate with the fans. "I have no idea what I was doing there," said the goalscorer after the game with a smile on his face and added: "I almost injured myself. It was quite dangerous, but I wasn't thinking at all. I was just happy."

Selassie's goal celebrations with the fans was the finishing touch of five very turbulent minutes in the Weser Stadium. Between the 86th minute and the final whistle, the Green-Whites turned a 1-0 deficit into a victory, for their first win of the season. "It was pure joy. The stadium exploded. Those minutes were unbelievable. Unfortunately I wasn't here last season when the team avoided relegation, but today I was able to imagine what it must've been like," said Izet Hajrovic.

Werder's morale was particularly impressive, after they conceded another opener in their third home game of the season, despite a solid performance. "We were rewarded for our bravery and passion. We always believed in ourselves," explained Hajrovic. "The lads never gave up," said caretaker manager Alexander Nouri. "This win feels good, especially because we fought our way back into the game with passion. It was quite nerve-wracking though," revealed sporting director Frank Baumann.

Goalscorer Gebre Selassie believes this liberating victory could be their turning point this season. "Today we saw that when you give everything, luck will eventually return to you." Following Lennart Thy's wonderful equalising strike, the Green-Whites threw everything forward in order to clinch the win. "You could tell that we desperately wanted the three points," recalled Nouri. Which is why right-back Gebre Selassie roamed Wolfsburg's penalty area ahead of Werder's final corner kick. "I just told myself: Now or never."
