The third and final group game of the U21 European Championship also ended in defeat for Milos Veljkovicand and the Serbian national team. On Friday evening, the Serbs lost 1-0 to the Spain U21s and were thereby knocked out of the tournament.

The Werder centre back played the entire 90 minutes and had a great chance to put his team ahead in the opening moments. Over the course of the game, Velkjovic continued to get forward for set-pieces and performed solidly at the back. But even he could not prevent the Spaniards’ goal.

Having lost the opening game 2-0 to Portugal and grafted out a late equaliser against Macedonia, Friday’s 1-0 defeat against group-leaders Spain left the Serbian U21s at third place in Group B. For Veljkovic, time for a hard-earned summer holiday.
