There was optimistic news on Serge Gnabry, Lamine Sané, and Philipp Bargfrede for Werder fans this afternoon. The trio returned to team training for the start of the team’s preparations ahead of the Nordderby. All three players are optimistically eyeing up the opportunity to take part in the renowned duel against Hamburg SV.

“I couldn’t be more excited for the Nordderby and hope to a part of it. I’ve worked hard in the past weeks and haven’t suffered any difficulties or setbacks,” stated Gnabry. “It’s a cool feeling to be back training with the team again. I hope that it continues, and am very positive,” said the 21-year-old with a view to possibly playing on the Easter Weekend. Gnabry has missed out on Werder’s last five Bundesliga games owing to muscular problems.

Teammate Lamine Sané is also looking to make a comeback against Hamburg SV on Sunday, 16th April 2017 (15:30 CEST). Sané has been out since the game against Freiburg, and failed to play the other games in the week. “I’m pleased to say that I’m now fit,” said the Senegalese defender.

Philipp Bargfrede has spent a long time on the sidelines. The midfielder is yet to play a game this year, and most recently the 28-year-old has been plagued by back problems. Bargfrede has been training individually under the supervision of Jens Beulke in weeks past, but over the last few days joined up with Gnabry and Sané to form a trio of recovering players training together, who all returned to team training on Tuesday afternoon.

Absent from the training ground was the Austrian Zlatko Junuzovic due to personal reasons. Robert Bauer is still training individually.
