The 2016/17 season looks to have ended prematurely for Izet Hajrovic. The Werder midfielder suffered a severe knee injury in the Bundesliga match with FC Ingolstadt. This was confirmed following an MRI scan on Sunday.
“Unfortunately our fears were confirmed this morning and Izet will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Obviously that’s terrible news, especially now as most of our long-term injured players have returned. Now we have to do without another player for several months. We wish Izet a speedy recovery and will support him during this time as best as we can,” explained Werder sporting director Frank Baumann.
Head coach Alexander Nouri also bemoaned the loss of his no.15: “We wish him a lot of strength and energy so that he can make a swift recovery. Without him we are missing an important player in midfield. He’s inspired our game a lot, especially in these past few weeks, and has really integrated himself well within the team.”
Understandably, Izet was quite downcast after receiving the news of the extent of his injury: “It’s obviously a bitter setback for me personally, because I worked really hard on bettering myself and I was in good shape physically. Despite everything, I was happy with our victory yesterday and wish my teammates all the best this season. A big thank you to all the Werder fans, who provided fantastic support for our team yesterday.”
