SV Werder Bremen's Bundesliga season got off to a rough start. After having failed to progress from the DFB Cup first round against Sportfreunde Lotte, the Green-Whites had shifted their focus onto the league but were unable to provide the right reaction as they lost 6-0 to defending champions FC Bayern. Fritz, Bartels and Co. were understandably very upset about their own performance: "We can't present ourselves like that here," bemoaned Bartels after the game. "We failed as a team," added Fritz.

WERDER.DE gathered the reactions following Bremen's unfortunate Bundesliga opener.

On the game:

Clemens Fritz: "Our game was dispirited and we looked afraid. It was a catastrophic performance. If we continue to enter challenges like that, we won't be able to win a single game. Nobody wanted to have possession of the ball today and at times we tried things that we've never done before, like try to play the offside trap. Our coaching staff provided us with a lot of information this week and prepared us intensively for what we are to expect here but we have to translate that onto the pitch. We failed as a team today. It's important that we accept the criticism and face up to our responsibilities together.

Aron Jóhannsson: "Bayern are certainly one of the top teams in Europe, but conceding six goals is too much. Almost everything went wrong today that could go wrong. We worked really hard throughout the week and believed in our ability to keep up here. However, we didn't show that on the pitch. That was nothing!"

Luca Caldirola: "We knew that it wouldn't be an easy task and that Bayern are an absolute top side, but this was definitely not the type of reaction we wanted to produce after the Lotte game. We are all very upset about our own performance."

Viktor Skripnik: "The third goal was the crucial point of the game, as they scored just seconds after the restart. Some of our players stopped playing football after that. Overall we offered our opponents far too much space. It really wasn't our day today."

Fin Bartels: "We stood too deep and waited to concede. Naturally it's unfortunate to concede two early goals, but it's no reason to get absolutely pulled apart here."

Frank Baumann: "We wanted to regain confidence through winning challenges but we simply couldn't get it going. We were far too passive and always were always behind the opposition."

On the international break:

Luca Caldirola: "We have to use this international break and hope that injured players such as Claudio Pizarro and Santi Garcia can return afterwards. I hope that I’ll return healthy from my trip to the national team."

Fin Bartels: "It's hard for me to know what to say after a game like this but it's now our challenge to set our minds straight again. We have to start over against Augsburg and we’ll have to work hard for it."

Robert Bauer: "On the one hand, it's annoying that we have to walk around with this result for two weeks now, but on the other hand it also gives us time to work on the mistakes we made today."
