Denmark international Thomas Delaney will move to SV Werder on 1st January, 2017. The 24-year-old midfielder will come to the Weser from FC Copenhagen. This was announced on Wednesday afternoon by Frank Baumann, sporting director. The fees involved are being kept under wraps.

“We are very pleased that Thomas has decided to move to Werder. He is a player with a lot of potential, who is the current captain of FC Copenhagen and will therefore bring a lot of leadership experience despite his young age. The transfer has been completed looking ahead to the new season. Because of the huge interest in Thomas, we decided to act now on a winter signing”, says Frank Baumann. Viktor Skripnik is looking forward to working with Delaney. “Thomas is a strong runner, who will give us a few more options through his flexibility. He is a player with a great mentality, who always puts everything in for the team”, says the head coach.

Thomas Delaney sees this move as an "important step" in his career. “I am very proud to be moving to such a famous club in January and to be playing in the Bundesliga. I want to take up a position of responsibility in the team. However, until the winter, I will continue to give my all for FC Copenhagen”, says the captain of the club from the Danish capital.

As well as Danish, Thomas Delaney holds  American citizenship, but he decided to play for his country of birth. He has so far made nine appearances for Denmark. For FC Copenhagen, the 24-year-old has made 224 appearances, including eight in the Champions League and 17 in the Europa League. With the club from the Danish capital, Delaney has lifted the Championship three times and the Cup three times.
