Aron Jóhannsson is finally back on the pitch. After more than ten months sidelined with injury, the USA international celebrated his comeback on Wednesday evening against Meppen.
Jóhannsson came on for Leon Guwara in the 62nd minute. Being back was a “great feeling”, said the Werder striker. “It wasn’t an easy time for me, but all the hard work has paid off. Now it’s important for me to gain match practice, minute by minute, in order to get back into form.”
The 25-year-old is obviously hoping that his lengthy hip injury won’t be an issue anymore, and Jóhannsson will work hard to ensure that’s the case. “Giving up isn’t part of my nature. I will keep my foot on the gas and hope that I can help the team throughout the season,” explained Jóhannsson after the game in Meppen. After a promising start to the campaign, every Werder fan will have their fingers crossed that the USMNT man can be a key part of the squad in 2016/17.
