“We have been looking for a centre-back for a while now and wanted to react quickly to the departure of Alejandro Gálvez. In Lamine, we have signed a very interesting player. He is a very big defender with a lot of experience. He has the potential to further stabilise our defence”, says Baumann.
After signing his contract, Lamine Sané said: “I am very pleased that the deal has gone through. I would like to thank Bordeaux for allowing me to make the move and SV Werder for having faith in me. I am excited to play in the Bundesliga, because I have followed it for many years. To play in these stadiums and with this atmosphere, especially at Werder, is something I am really relishing. I want to make my contribution to a successful season as quickly as possible”, says Sané.
It is no wonder that Sané is familiar with the Bundesliga: his younger brother Salif Sané is under contract with Hannover 96. The 1.90 metre tall centre-back has played for Bordeaux since the 2009/10 season. In this time, Sané made 188 appearances in Ligue 1 (seven goals), as well as playing in 17 Europa League and six Champions League matches.
